Two young, bored strangers start a dangerous game with their lives at stake. The dialogues are written in a vivid, contemporary language of the young or, as some people want, neo-newspeak. A play about a desperate desire to drown out the emptiness of life and a longing for true closeness to another human being.

Motto

Many new cases of AIDS in recent years are attributed to so-called virus chasers. These people have deliberately become infected with the HIV virus in order to experience the thrill of mortal risk. A sign of readiness to have sexual intercourse with a seropositive person is announced by an advertisement on the Internet: I want to be positive. "The Spectator" 1.02.2003

Part I

Pogo is alone in the apartment, dancing with his headphones on.

The phone rings. Pixi, a stranger, responds to Pogo's announcement on the Internet: "I want to be positive," which means "I want to get infected with HIV". Pogo invites the girl to his place. At first the atmosphere is very stiff. Pixi wants to get down to business right away, but Pogo initiates the conversation. He asks a lot of questions, e.g. how she got infected. Pixi answers reluctantly, in half-words, says that it happened because of a transfusion. She dismisses him, considering the conversation a waste of time, but Pogo wants to know more. When asked where she would like to have be born if she could influence it, Pixi answers that in a supermarket, because then she would have free shopping for the rest of her life. Pogo sees something lofty in this situation, in their meeting in such special circumstances, he thinks that when he gets HIV from Pixie, something will connect them forever. But the girl prefers to watch TV.

Part II

Pogo asks Pixi to ask him something now. He tells her that he works in a big company, earns well and likes living his life to the extreme, mega-extreme. Pixie asks why Pogo wants to do this. He answers that he's looking for meaning in life. But Pixie starts to have doubts. Pogo is also close to giving up, he says that this is not how he imagined it, he thought there would be some solemnity, poetry, metaphysics in it. Annoyed Pixi tells him that the virus was "sold" to her by her ex-boyfriend. He is told that she never had any luck in her life, once she found a coin in a cart in a supermarket. They argue. Pixi wants to leave, but eventually they decide to go to bed.

Part III

It's over. Pogo admits he did it out of boredom. He wonders if he caught the virus. Then Pixi reveals to him that she's not "positive", that she tricked him. The worst part is, for people like you, death has become another fucking entertainment, she screams at him. She says her name is Patricia and she studies psychology. She leaves. He runs after her to the stairwell, calls her back because he wants to tell her something very important. Patricia comes back. Pogo tells her that she hasn't taken one thing into account: that maybe he's seropositive.
